Lesson 048 – There is nothing to fear

The idea for today simply states a fact. It is not a fact to those who believe in illusions, but illusions are not facts. In truth there is nothing to fear. It is very easy to recognise this. But it is very difficult to recognise it for those who want illusions to be true.

Today’s practise periods will be very short, very simple and very frequent. Merely repeat the idea as often as possible. You can use it with your eyes open at any time and in any situation. It is strongly recommended, however, that you take a minute or so whenever possible to dose your eyes and repeat the idea slowly to yourself several times. It is particularly important that you use the idea immediately, should anything disturb your peace of mind.

The presence of fear is a sure sign that you are trusting in your own strength. The awareness that there is nothing to fear shows that somewhere in your mind, though not necessarily in a place you recognise as yet, you have remembered God, and let His strength take the place of your weakness. The instant you are willing to do this there is indeed nothing to fear.

  1. I’m interested in the teaching about:

    WHAT IS THIS FOR

The idea behind learning / utilizing the situation that one finds themselves deeply troubled by or entwined. Apparently the Holy Spirit can really use whatever the situation to teach if we look closely and listen.

Is there any further study on this topic?

    1. Hi, JR. Thank you for your comment.

My research into many different areas and work with clients in “past lives therapy” has led me to believe that we come into this life with unresolved “fear” (“fear” defined as anything that is not Love).

Situations in this life that cause us discomfort, remind us of past trauma that has most often occurred just before we died in a past life. We feel the same fear now that we felt then… we feel the same areas of our body tighten that we tightened then, to protect ourselves… but we have not been taught what to do when it arises.

Since “All healing is essentially the release from fear,” it becomes clear that we need to somehow release the fear that has been stored in our bodies. The tension we feel when faced with these reminders shows us where the fear was stored at that time… feet, head, heart, etc. If we simply stop, observe the tension – notice it is a set of bodily sensations – and breathe into it, we can essentially let it go. When we can breathe fully, freely, deeply, then we know we have released the fear.

We do not need to go to past lives to do this; the feeling we feel now is sufficient to guide us to release the old trauma.

A key to healing is in language itself. The Latin word “spiritus” means “breath” and that is why they say “Spirit is the healer”. It is. It truly is. If you read “The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ” you will find that rather than “Holy Spirit” or “Holy Ghost”, the term “Holy Breath” is used throughout.

In other cultures with other languages, it is commonly understood that breath is spirit – and the closeness of Spirit (“God goes with me wherever I go”) is not as mysterious to them as it is to us. The beauty is that we are being breathed by the highest divine power, every moment of every day and all night long. We are never alone. We are so loved.

When we breathe, fully, freely and deeply, we are “letting the Holy Spirit” in. The Holy Spirit / Holy Breath provides a sweet, comforting massage to the tension.

Man meets God and all is well.

If you’d like to discuss this more, let me know. I appreciate your question. It gave me an opportunity to put it all into words.

      1. The next time you are faced with fear, and your breathing gets shallow, try this.
Let the breath, breathe you, instead of the usual way.
Rather than explain, it would be preferable if you found out for yourself.

        1. Thank you, Martin, for adding that. There is no need to control the Breath of Life. We can just let it breathe us. If we only realized how very loved we are… I do believe our purpose on this planet is to simply allow the Love to love us. Fear leads to holding the breath and holding the breath is a denial of entry to the Holy Spirit (Holy Breath).

      2. So situations and circumstances are opportunities to confront fear head-on? I do know that it helps to Change Perception as the Ego is a drama-queen on steroids. But when surrounded by Chaos at that moment, even the best student must react from instinctive programming — hence, ACIM saturation does provide a firmer footing. The vigilance required to be in the moment is beyond most — fear of future events and reflections of past failures are Egoic defences that pack a powerful physical dimmension.
Since all of this is a Dream, why is it so difficult to write a better character for ourselves within the script?
Sorry, I’m babbling. But thatnks for the response.
WHAT IS THIS FOR is my project this week — trying to put fresh eyes on a neglected life and consequences of past decisions.

        1. JR, you are so right. It’s not easy to convince ourselves from the intellect that we need not fear. However, there is another level for us to go to. ACIM says, “Knowledge is beyond the scope of our curriculum, but this course will prepare you for Knowledge.”

Have you seen my book, “Knowledge, the Essence of World Scriptures”? There is an experience to be had – of Light, of Love, and all the other attributes of God… a direct experience that is not just wishful thinking, but a practical way to KNOW God. When we practice staying in touch with that experience, it’s a bit like riding a bike. At first we have a hard time maintaining our balance, but then something kicks in and you just ride and ride… with maybe a little bump now and again, but for the most part, those things that used to throw us for a loop, no longer do – and we recover faster and let go quickly.

I was thinking just today about the story of Jesus walking on water. Water is a metaphysical metaphor for the emotions. Jesus knew how to ride the waves. We can learn how to do that too. He was showing his disciples how to go within to the peace that passes all understanding.

There is always someone on the planet who can teach us how to go within. I truly cannot imagine studying ACIM without Knowledge… a lot of it would not make sense. You can’t master fear from the maker of fear – the mortal mind. It requires a giant step outside the mind to put fear in its place. Knowledge is that giant step.

          1. Thanks for the response. Nicely said.

What struck me recently was a simple phrase from an ACIM teacher (Jon Mundy): Willingness Is A Thought. And all that is required is a little willingness.

Don’t know why, but Willingness seems to be my immediate focus on all things — how willing am I, really? The very fact that one may experience any Insane Ego generated emotions, indicates the loss of Willingness to experience differently — other-wise we would not be experiencing the uncomfortable circumstance. The grip of the Ego can be released if challenged by the Awakened Mind but it requires a Willingness to Choose Again — that’s where many problems arise and what I seek to understand.

Exploring Free Will and Willingness much further — there’s real power in those teachings.

            Regards,
            JR

          2. JR, hi again. How honest you are! Willingness is the difference between inertia and movement. I was willing AND I asked for protection, in case I was not on the right track. I received help along the way. Have you read Yogananda’s book, “Autobiography of a Yogi”? It helped me realize I could actually talk with God. Not formal prayer, but more like, “Where shall I go, what shall I do, what shall I say – and to whom?”

          3. Hello, and yes = read your Amazon book teaser. Are you writing anything else? That must a great way to live — author helping others.
And you’re right. Willingness leads to action. But just the thought of Being Willing has massive power for me right now. Not sure why, but poking around for answers — ACIM is lifeline in choppy seas.

          4. The teaser is not exactly an accurate depiction of the book contents. If you do a search in “Look inside”, for Light or Word – the chapter titles – you will find more accurate content. Unfortunately, it’s not exactly a bestseller… but I hope those who read it will be willing to hear that heaven is for here and now – not for after death. ACIM says “God is lonely without us” and we can live an entire life without ever knowing how to connect. I’m extremely grateful for the little bit of curiosity, hunger, willingness – that drove me to put aside my preconceived notions and just GO for it. When I finally realized that the verse, “God is Light”, meant John was speaking from his personal experience, not theory, I had to have that too. I am far from a model seeker, but I sure am grateful the bar was low when I went to find Knowledge. “Seek and you WILL find… ask and you WILL receive…” these lines are not teasing – they are a promise.
